How to Run an Estate Sale in Hawaii

Fourteen pages on what to do first, what never to do, and the Hawaii-specific rules that decide what is actually possible with your property. Written to be useful whether or not you ever hire anybody.

What is in it

The things families wish they had known in week one

  • The one mistake that cannot be undone, and why clearing the house first costs money
  • How to establish who actually has authority to sell
  • Choosing between a sale, an auction, consignment and a buyout
  • Why the condominium house rules decide the plan before you do
  • What sells in a Hawaii household, and what gets thrown out by mistake
  • How commission works, and what an estimate should really settle
  • Oʻahu disposal limits, which catch almost everybody out
  • Ten questions worth putting to any company, including us

No cost, and no obligation to talk to anyone. We will email you occasionally; you can stop that at any time.

So we can send you the guide.

Why we wrote it

Most of what is published about estate sales is written by companies trying to be hired, and it shows: it explains why you need help without explaining how the thing actually works.

This is the other kind. It is the information we end up giving families on the phone anyway, written down once so you can read it at your own pace and make your own decision. If you read it and conclude that a sale is not right for your estate, that is a good outcome.

What it is not

It is not legal or tax advice, and it does not pretend to be. Where something is genuinely a question for an attorney or an accountant, the guide says so and points you at them rather than guessing.

It also does not promise what your estate will earn. Nobody can do that honestly before a sale has run, and anyone who offers to is guessing at your expense.

Planning an estate sale?

Tell us where the property is, roughly what's in it, and the date you're working toward. We'll come look, tell you what the estate is realistically likely to do, and put the scope and the rate in writing before you commit to anything.

No cost for the consultation. No obligation to book a sale.
